Running is the answer to anything and everything. Stressed? Run. Excited? Run. Worried? Run. Feeling down? Run. Running is an outlet to anyone who needs some time to think and get some exercise. Most importantly running has taught me that I am capable of so much more than I thought. It has taught me to always go the extra mile. Yes, sometimes it can be hard to find the motivation, but once your feet are moving and your headphones are in then no one can stop you but yourself.
Running helps me redirect my focus, energy, and emotions:
Exercise has been shown to help focus attention throughout the day. Being a college student there are so many distractions around me. Running helps me focus better in the classroom as well as my priorities. Whether I’m at an all time high or all time low running is the answer. No matter what running is always a good way for me to channel my energy. No matter what kind of attitude or mood I am in I always feel refreshed and proud of myself afterwards.
Running gives me time to myself:
Tuning out everyone around me and putting in my headphones is the best part about running. Once I get in my zone it is so easy for me to just keep my feet moving. I have a playlist with all of my favorite pump up songs that help me get into the mood for a good run. Running outside keeps me distracted and wondering how far I can keep going. My favorite types of runs are typically in the early morning or late at night. My days are typically filled with lots of classes, work and studying, so the morning or night are the most essential times that I can find to have to myself.
Running always puts me in a better mood and positive attitude:
No matter what kind of attitude or mood I am in I always feel refreshed and proud of myself afterwards. The feeling after finishing a run is what makes me want to go back the next day and do it all again! The first mile is always the hardest but once you get going you don’t want to stop! I also have a fitness tracker and it is so helpful for me to see the progression from when I first got it. My fitness tracker also offers challenges with other friends, therefore making it a fun competition between friends.
