The "Rules" Of Fat Fashion

Universal guidelines that all fat girls know.

Growing up as a fat girl means that you start to understand what you are expected to wear and what fashion means once it is paired up with a fat body. One of the biggest struggles for fat girls is wading through ridiculous rules and finding your own sense of style and individuality among terrible marketing and clothes made by someone who has no idea how a fat body works. This is what I have learned throughout my own journey of discovering my own style.

1. Fat girls can not wear horizontal stripes

Obviously, anything that makes your body look bigger and is not directly designed to slim you is frowned upon.

2. No VBO (Visible Belly Outline)

Despite being visibly fat, it is still unacceptable to actually let people see the fat body that they know is there. *Cue eye roll emoji*

3. No crop tops

Of course, this one should be obvious as fat fashion is meant to be kept completely separate from all other current trends. And who would ever want to see a fat girl being care free and following a fashion trend that is literally everywhere?

4. Only dark colors allowed

This rule is based on the idea that black and other dark colors are slimming, and I mean, of course, that is what all fat girls should be wearing so that they can hide their body.

5. No sleeveless tops

Of course, if you are a fat girl, then you know the struggle of also having fat arms and how most people assume you hate your arms and that shirts with no sleeves are a no-no.

6. No sheer fabric

Don't worry! Fat girls get to be shamed for showing off their body just like everyone else!

7. Only long pants and skirts allowed

No matter the season or heat outside, fat girls are always expected to cover up their legs.

8. No swimming in bathing suits that are not one pieces

Being comfortable in the summer is one of the hardest things for fat girls, and obviously, the beach is no exception. Why have fun when you can feel subconscious about your body in a bathing suit?

9. Only wear clothes that cinch at the waist

Despite flowy dresses and shirts being more comfortable, fat girls must always be seen in structured tops.

10. No busy or bright patterns

Wearing bold patterns might make you stand out in a crowd, and fat fashion is all about blending in.

11. Always remember to hate your body and never want to show it off

This follows the age-old tradition of shaming bodies that don't fit a very narrow standard and making sure to keep those individuals unhappy and hyper-aware of the body that they have.

Don't let these rules tell you how to live. Find the style you love and work it, no matter what body shape you have!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
