In this current age of lies, deceit, and fake news, it becomes difficult to know who and what we can and cannot trust. These days, there is only one source that always I trust no matter what. In a world of uncertainty, it's the only thing I can truly rely on. It's a website by the name of Rotten Tomatoes.
This magical website is essentially a place where movies and television shows are assigned a certain score, anywhere from 0-100, based on the number of critics that give the film or series a positive or negative score. Essentially, the lower the score, the worse the reviews, while the higher the score, the better the reviews. It's a beautiful, easy to follow system in a time when things of such a simple nature are few and far between. A low score, anywhere from 0-59%, indicates a"rotten" tomato, whereas a "fresh" tomato can be achieved with a score of 60 or above. The website even offers a critics consensus for each film, which is essentially a short, concise paragraph detailing whether the film is good or bad, and a few reasons why.
I trust this website more than anything else in my life, people included. I generally trust my close friends and family members, but even the trust I have in them pales in comparison to the amount of complete faith I have in rottentomatoes.com, a site that does exactly what it is meant to do, and never lets me down.
Some people look to their loved ones in times of hopelessness and uncertainty, others look to the Bible. Personally, I look to Rotten Tomatoes. For all intents and purposes, RT is my Bible. I look to this website in times of need, it helps guide me through its teachings, and it provides the basis for my spiritual beliefs.
Before I watch a movie, or even a television show, I always check the RT score. If the score is high, let's say 80% or above, then that means 80% of the critics that saw it liked it, which lets me know that I will most likely like it as well. If the score is low, however, then there is a good chance I will not even watch the movie. At the very least, the low score will prepare me for how bad the movie will be, so that I make sure to go in with appropriately low expectations. That way, I make sure to not get let down.
In the chaotic, complex world that we live in today, we need a little bit of order. Luckily, we have Rotten Tomatoes.
RT is the last brave soldier in a world of lies and hypocrisy, a brave guardian fighting for truth upon the forefront of the media landscape.
Without this phenomenal website, I would be lost, and I strongly believe that the rest of the world would slowly descend into madness as well. Rotten Tomatoes is the last thing keeping this world together, a bright and blinding glimmer of light and hope in the darkness that we call the year 2018.
Without it, what would we use in order to determine whether a movie was worth seeing or not? Random reviews online? Word of mouth from friends? IMDB? I think not. All of these inferior options pale in comparison to the mighty Rotten Tomatoes.
Make sure to use this wonderful website to its full advantage. If you're trying to pick a movie to go see, check the score. It only takes a few seconds, and you'll be unbelievably glad that you did. You'll never have to sit through a terrible movie again, because Hollywood seems to churn out a lot of those.
Thank you, Rotten Tomatoes. Thank you for helping me dictate what movies and television are worth watching, and for ultimately keeping my faith in humanity and the universe intact.
