This Lenten Season was unlike no other encounter that I have previously experienced. I spent most of my time going to this so-called ministry that was not of my own. I also hung out with people that I thought were my friends, but found out later that they were not. I somehow lost touch with my closest college friends who have kept me in line from the beginning.
I missed a lot of my college experience during this semester due to the fact that I was off-campus 99 percent of my weekends. With this disconnect by not attending mass and hanging out with my closest friends, I somehow managed to still find my way back to the relationship that I have had with God prior to this eye-opening experience. Here are three things that I learned during this time leading up to God's great journey.
1. The presence of faith never goes away.
The presence of a higher power is strong even when an individual is not aware that this spirit is nearby. Life can get out of control at times and it can be difficult for one to stay connected with their faith every single day. After this one experience, I would have to say surround yourself with those who remind you how important your religious roots are and encourage you to seek opportunities that allow you to grow your faith.
2. Be thankful for your childhood.
Religious value has to have some roots. For me, these roots came from the social context of family. I am still so very blessed that I was raised in a household that supported tradition as well as the importance of how religion can bring a family closer together.
3. Count your blessings.
Your blessings are not just things that you can take for granted. Immerse yourself in those blessings. You can thank me later.
During this Lenten Season, I have learned that where you came from, where you might end up, and everything in between are all important stages of my journey.
