Is Having A Roommate Worth It?

There will be a time in your life where you might have to share a room/living space with someone besides yourself. At times like these there are several things that are agreed upon to make living together stress free. Most of the time once everyone is comfortable the standards get lower and lower, many of which causes unbelievable amounts of stress. Who cares who started it first truth be told that both parties are wrong and until something happens living relationships can be nearing destruction.

These days there are surveys and lists of what to look out for when selecting a roommate which then to be helpful. Encouraged and ready to see who the fortunate contestant, the person of choice tends to favor a person that is familiar, has a history of being organized, and whichever is the highlight of interest at the time. However, believe it or not great first impressions can lead to great disappointments. The person you thought you knew is a complete stranger and is doing the opposite of what was agreed upon. The person who was known to be organized tends to get overly aggressive when you move something a little different to how they want it. Oh the people who peaked your interest at the spur of the moment, like the great cooks who leave dishes in the sink for days on end, the cool person who knows how to party but you are not in the mood to party all the time. The ones who brings tons of people into the house or apartment and they eat everything in the refrigerator.

Those are but simple examples of how stressful living with another person can be. However, just like in every situation to life there are always two sides to a story. Having a roommate can be fun and a great way to cut expenses and help someone out. Sometimes you get lucky and find someone who likes to clean and loves to cook. Some then to have a really cool television set and pays extra for cable so that you can record and watch all your favorite shows. Many tend to bring in more than yourself when it comes to furniture, decoration, and so on and so forth. Some are understanding when you are unable to make rent on time and help cover the cost for that month, which is rare so don’t take advantage of such a person. If you are new to the area, then sometimes you have a roommate that knows the area and shows you what there is to do and how to get around.

If you wonder, why there is a stressful air between you and your roommate, a piece of advice is to communicate. Throw away any pride that might be looming in your mind and merely sit down together and work out the issues at hand. Sometimes the one to blame is self and it is a part of the problem. No one knows the situation better than those involved so maybe if things can’t be worked out then it would be best to restart and find someone new or if the problem is you then maybe living alone is not such a bad idea. After it is all said and done try and work on how to be a better roommate before judging the roommate, because only you know if it is worth it or not.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
