Roommate Blues

We live together, but we never see each other.

Having a roommate is one thing about college life that students either love or hate. Some students get stuck with students they don't know or have never met before moving in. Although this is mostly the case for freshmen. As you become an upperclassman you make friends and get more of a choice of not only who your roommate is but also where you're allowed to live.

Although my freshman year, my roommate and I didn't get along and had completely different schedules. Now I'm living with my best friend in a townhouse instead of a dorm. This being said although I love my roommate we don't get to see each other very often because we are on opposite schedules.

It may seem like fun to be living with your best friend, but if you never get to see them what's the fun in that? Here are some tips for you are your roomie to spend some quality time together.

1.) Plan a weekly dinner

It's nice to catch up, and the best way to catch up is over food. Hit the dinning hall and share a meal together. If you have more time on your hands or access to a kitchen make dinner together or take turns making dinner. It's always nice to have a home-cooked meal so why not share it with a friend.

2.) Weekends

The week is normally super busy with classes, meetings, and studying. It's not always easy to find extra time to really relax and hangout. That's what the weekends are for! Have a movie night. Do a face mask. Just destress from the long week you just had. I know it's only five days but that five-day stretch gets longer and longer as the semester goes on.

3.) Text

It's not always possible to hang out together or grab a meal. But you can always let your roomie know your thinking of them with a quick text. It's always nice to be reminded that someone cares about you, and best of all you live with them!

It's only the beginning of the semester but soon the time will fly. You and your roommate will have tons of memories to share with each other in a nursing home one day, or at least I will.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
