Everyone has a different perspective on love. Whether that's through their experiences, their projections on what they think love should be, or what they want to change about love in their life. There are so many movies that have helped define what love is in this generation even if they are older or newer. In my opinion, these are some of the best movies that have helped bring love to the standard to what it is today. These movies have all touched me in some way or another and these are just some of my personal favorites, but there are thousands of movies in this genre that I absolutely love.
1. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
This is one of the most influential movies I believe because who doesn't love a little competition. Also, what's not to love about two lovers who think they're both so sly in playing the double agent. But who doesn't love Kate Hudson? This movie taught me that you can have it all, the perfect job, perfect friends, perfect life but love will conquer all in the end. We saw Andie and Ben both bullheaded and driven in their line of work but at the end they just couldn't resist the fact that they were developing real feelings for each other in their grand scheme of things. No matter what, love wins in the end and comes down to the fact that it might just be perfect.
2. The Proposal
This is just a classic. If you haven't watched this movie—stop reading this and go rent it now. It's the perfect combination of the hate/love relationship we all we want with high stakes and so much humor. Plus, Betty White was quite the comedian. Aside from the most obvious takeaway in this movie, I think what I absorbed from it was don't ever judge a book by its cover. I know, it's cliché but it's so true and really shows itself in this movie. We are all humans and we all have a past, thoughts, feelings and a voice. There is so much depth to another person, you just have to take the time to open up and get to know them. Because in this case, they might be the one you were looking for.
3. Just Go with It
Don't we all just love an Adam Sandler movie? This has probably got to be one of my favorite movies of his. And of course, the lovely Jennifer Aniston. The typical guy gets caught in a little white lie that turns out not to be as little and simple as he thought. Bringing me to the lesson of the most obvious, don't pretend to be someone you just aren't. It's a waste of everyone else's and your time. Besides people will like you for who you are no matter what. If they don't, then they don't deserve you. You will be much happier, I promise.
4. Notting Hill
If you're someone who dreams about a relationship with a movie star, well look no further. This tells the complicated but hilarious story of Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts and how they make their love between an ordinary boy and a bright booming movie star. It makes us realize that no matter what your background you come from, you are worthy of the best kind of love there is to offer. They show us how they don't let anything stand in their way of being with each other. It's about knowing that you are good enough to be loved in the best way possible.
5. Love Actually
I couldn't write an article and not include this very worldwide famous rom-com. This is probably the most realistic everyday depiction of what love looks like in life. It tethers together so many lives and relationships that it makes you feel emotions of happiness, sadness, hurt, laughter, and joy just in one sitting. This movie takes love and strips it to its simplest form and puts it out there in every character's storyline and does so many different things and situations for their lives. It showed me that down to the core, love is all that matters. Whether it's from a significant other, you family or friends, you are loved no matter what.
6. Love, Rosie
This is probably the most basic love story of all time but is possibly one of sweetest. Two best friends turned lovers but not acknowledging it definitely tugs the heartstrings and makes you anxious and jump from your seat. It takes your through their up and down battle of love and timing. And right when you feel your heart breaking suddenly the unthinkable happens and takes you on a turn. My love for this movie has taught me that sometimes the perfect person might not be the person you expected at all. That maybe the timing wasn't right and that there might never be a perfect time but if at the end of the day it's always them, that's what matters. It sheds light on the innocence of love and having the courage to be brave and changing your life because you made it happen.
