Roles Every Best Friend Plays

Special thanks to all that best friends do in our lives and all the different roles they play. Here are a few essential roles our best friends play in our life.

1. The therapist.

Analyzing situations is probably the No. 1 responsibility of a best friend. Whether it be listening as you rant about how they forgot to put the cheese on the sandwich you ordered for lunch or giving advice in making a decision like what major to pick or what college to choose. You are there to combat every problem no matter how big or small.

2. The co-writer.

Apple did us all a favor with the screenshot as it has allowed us to send every awkward message to our best friend for them to come up with the best response to. From deciding how to word the text to choosing the perfect emoji, special thanks for being my anonymous co-writer.

3. The diary.

Best friends are the keeper of our secrets, like the diary I had when I was in the third grade. There isn't any secret I wouldn't tell you. I appreciate you keeping every secret and for not bringing up that one really embarrassing crush I had when I was 14.

4. The Nev to my Max.

Sorry MTV, but my best friend I perfected the skills of finding information out through social media long before you did. Don't underestimate our skills to know if someone's lying.

5. The workout buddy.

Best friends make for the best workout buddies as they are always there to give you that little push you need. "If we run another mile, we can get an ice cream on the way home."

6. The motivational speaker.

Best friends are the people that believe in us sometimes when we don't believe in ourselves. They constantly remind us that "We can do it"; nothing like a little pep talk from a best friend.

7. The comedian.

Yes, we could all use a laugh sometimes. It is no secret that best friends will go to any length in order to make their best friend laugh. They never live in fear of looking ridiculous because it is their job to give you that comic relief when life gets tough sometimes.

8. The reality check.

The best thing about best friends is they aren't afraid to give you the cold hard truth. Sometimes we need to be told we are wrong, and that's OK because that's what best friends are for. They give us an outside perspective and, ultimately, they want the best for us.

9. Wardrobe consultant/stylist.

"I cannot decide what to wear. I'm going to send you different options." "What are you wearing?" "Are we looking cute?" "Does this match?" "How does my hair look? Honestly?" "Should I buy this?" Yes, best friends are always there to tell you how it is. We put full trust in them when deciding how to dress to impress.

10. The "Remember when's?"

Best friends have thousands of inside jokes and memories that when brought up can instantly make one laugh uncontrollably.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
