What Role Do You Play In Your Friend Group?

These are the roles that each of my forever friends play in our group.

I have always had a difficult time truly connecting with different friends I made over time. Most of the time they were great friends, and I'm so honored I had the chance to meet them. Everyone who has the opportunity to meet them in the future and become friends with them will honestly be very lucky.

However, I never felt as if the friends I had made were really friends that I would keep together. I always felt like the only reason I was friends with those people was because we went to high school together and saw each other five days a week.

Towards the end of my senior year, I became best friends with one of the most amazing young ladies on this planet, and I honestly mean that. I am so thankful for the friendship that we have and I know it is a friendship I will have for the rest of my life. Although I have this amazing friendship, I knew it would not be enough to make it through my college years. I needed to make new friends at Wells because if I didn't, it was going to be a very lonely four years. Fortunately for me, I found my six best friends in my first semester at this school. I always have fun trying to guess what role each friend takes in our little group.

1. The "Mom"

I am positive that every friend group believes that have a friend that could be considered the Mom of the group. Out of all of my friends, this was the easiest role for me to assign, and all of my other friends agree as well. Our "Mom" is the one who will drive us to the store whenever we need something. Of course, while we're out in public she always makes sure we are all behaving, and when we are not she quickly makes sure we start.

When we're in different stores she is the one that will push our cart, and she even lets me takes rides when I'm too lazy to walk (so basically every time we go out). She makes sure we always have everything we need before we leave. She comes up with the best food ideas and wastes no time before she will make it for us to all share. When we go out to eat and something is wrong with our order she is the first one we will turn to and she has no problem making sure we get exactly what we asked for.

She is one of the most loving and caring people I have ever met in my life, and I'm so very grateful to call her one of my best friends.

2. The "Grandma"

This is the friend that often takes over the "Mom" role if our other Mom is not around. However, she is more like the stereotypical awesome Grandma than just another mother. She spoils us. She shares her snacks, her clothes, the extra cold water bottles from her fridge, and she is almost always willing to get up and do something for me if I ask.

She actually joined two of my classes this semester because I told her it would be more fun if we were together. She does not hesitate when I ask to spend the night on the extra bed in her room because she knows that I hate the walk back to my dorm building. However, she is also always willing to walk me back to my building no matter how late at night it is because she knows that I get scared walking alone in the dark.

She really spoils me; especially, whenever we go to the pub she is always willing to buy me a green apple smoothie with extra whipped cream (well until she ran out of dining dollars anyway).

3. The "Twin"

I never imagined having so many things in common with this friend, but now every time she states that she likes something it is always something that gives me great happiness as well. It truly amazes me how many different things we have in common; for example, eating cold french fries. Most people find that disgusting and I can totally understand that but we still love it.

I believe that in every friend group a person could find their "twin". You'll always have a special relationship with this person and it is mostly because it is so easy to relate to each of them. I'm so thankful to have someone who really understand me or what I am going through. It always makes me feel extremely better when she is around.

4. The "Supporter"

I really hope that every group has a friend like this because I do not know what I would do without her constant reassurance. I always have a slight fear of the outcome of my decisions, but this girl will always remind me that if it will make me happy then the rest does not matter. She always offers her support and honestly cares about each and every one of our friends.

She is the friend that will always text me to make sure I'm okay and she will make sure that if I need anything I know she is there for me. I'm so thankful to have such an amazing friend. The qualities that make her great do not end here either; she has a very bubbly personality, she is so funny, and she is always ready for an adventure.

5. The "Rebel Child"

This friend is the one that is always up for adventures, and she is usually the one who suggests what they will be. She's not a crazy rebel child in a bad way, but more someone you aspire to be because you know how awesome she is. It is guaranteed that when she is around you will be having lots of fun.

She's also the friend that will introduce you to new people and helps you broaden your friend group. Although she likes to have fun she also has a completely sweet side. She's one of the most genuine and kind-hearted people I have met so far at college.

6. The "Inspiring Friend"

This is the healthy friend that inspires you and makes you want to be like her even though you're so lazy. She's the friend that eats healthy and goes to the gym every day.

She always invites you and the others to tag along even if she knows the chances of anyone saying yes is incredibly low. It's still nice to know that if I ever get the motivation I will have one check of a good friend to go with me.

7. The "Model"

This is the gorgeous friend. The friend that always looks flawless even when she puts no effort in. She has this type of natural beauty, and it is even more magical because it is not just physical beauty but she is also just as beautiful inside. It is amazing. She not only has a gorgeous face to match her beautiful hair, but she looks amazing in anything that she wears.

A few weeks ago, we went to a thrift store and she picked out two blouses that would have looked terrible on almost anyone else. When she put them on though she looked amazing - absolutely gorgeous. I will always be envious of how flawless she is even when she is not trying.

I had originally planned to put a photo of my friend after the role I associate them with; however, I believe it would be a lot more interesting to see if they can guess which I believe they are. In the end, I'm just very glad that I've had the opportunity to meet each of these girls. I appreciate each role that these girls play in our friendship group.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
