It's every kids dream when they start playing an instrument to perform on the big stage. I was probably around 14 when I first got to experience that feeling of playing in a band in front of a crowd of people. It's no longer the basement or the garage, it is the real deal, main stage. It has now been some time since I have had that feeling, but I got to relive that dream one more time last Friday.
On Thursday of last week I got a frantic text that asked if I could play bass with a band in a show on Friday. Confused, I responded that I have not played in a long time, and did not even have a guitar on campus. I was assured it would be fine and was invited to a practice that night.
When I arrived to the basement for the practice, I was warmly greeted and introduced to the band mates- all but one. Moments later the guitar player came fumbling down the steps, whipped his guitar out of the case, plugged in, and said "Okay, Ready?" Confused, I looked at him and said "Hi... I'm Connor." He said nice to meet you and was ready to play. Next thing I knew I they all started playing a song. Moments later we ditched the song and started a new one. One thing led to another and we were playing songs through perfectly without ever practicing. We were in complete sync and sounded kinda good.
Once we nailed our two songs- well we were kicked out of the house- we called it a night and had to come ready for the next day.
Friday rolled around and I became nervous. The more I talked to people the more I realized that there would be bunch of people at the show.
The night of the show was a blast. We shared the stage with some amazing artist and performers. I later noticed in the video that I had smiled the whole time. From the first note of our first song, everyone was moving around and signing along. It was the greatest feeling in the world.
There is no greater feeling in the world than playing live music, and being on a stage. The lights are bright, the sound is high, and the sweat is dripping off. It is heaven.
