Don't let it rain on your suburban parade

Like anything, the margin of excitement towards a summer thunderstorm diminishes with each rainfall. Cozying up on the couch with Netflix and a fuzzy blanket isn’t as exciting the second or third time around. Living in the suburbs can certainly prove challenging on a day when the Weather Gods have failed you and outdoor activities are not an option. While the clouds cry over suburbia, you don't have to cry too. Contrary to popular belief, Rockland County and Northern Jersey offer a variety of indoor recreation that does not include your typical movie theater outing or indoor shopping mall.

1. What: Pinot's Palette

Where: Ridgewood, New Jersey

Get in touch with your creative side, but don’t forget the booze! All painting levels are welcome, just be sure to call ahead to reserve your seat.

2. What: Escape The Mystery Room

Where: Palisades Mall

Rally up your group of friends and put your problem-solving skills to the test. Basically, you’re stuck inside of a room and the only way out is to solve the riddles provided. It sounds slightly claustrophobic, but the thrill of the game will erase any trapping fears you may have. This also requires a reservation, so be sure to reserve your room in advance.

3. What: Mia's Foot Relaxing Station

Where: New City, New York

Who said broke college students can’t afford a massage? At Mia’s, a 30-minute foot reflexology appointment is $18. Upgrade to the hour appointment for $30. Cheap and relaxing. You’re welcome.

4. What: The Gravity Vault

Where: Upper Saddle River, New Jersey

While nothing compares to scaling a mountain out west, The Gravity Vault offers several indoor rock walls to climb, regardless of the weather report. Unique, adventurous, and definitely a killer workout.

5. What: 5 Wits

Where: Palisades Mall

You don’t need to travel to Disney to engage in a virtual world of interactive games. Instead of sitting on your couch with a game controller in your hand, staring blankly at a screen, 5 Wits allows you to join in on the live-action adventure. Think: Deep Space, Egyption Tomb, and Drago’s Castle. These are all places you can visit while the clouds unleash their tears on the suburbs.

6. What: Bazaar Star Beadery

Where: Ridgewood, New Jersey

There is nothing more relaxing than letting your creative juices flow. Better yet, you can strut your one-of-a-kind jewelry around without the worry of a “who wore it better” battle. With a friend or by yourself, the infinite collection of beads to choose from will keep you entertained for hours. The best part is that no reservations are needed, so this can be a very spontaneous option if you need something last minute. What’s better than wearable art? Exactly.

7. What: Westchester Broadway Theater

Where: Elmsford, New York

Entertainment and food. Need I say more? Take your significant other on a romantic and unique date, or get a great group sale discount with friends. The performers are talented and the food is delicious. While there is nothing quite like a New York City Broadway play, dealing with a down pour while navigating city streets is not ideal. Enjoy a matinee or evening performance and forget about the gloomy weather.

8. What: Dave and Busters

Where: Palisades Mall

Release your inner child while you let loose in an arcade that is suitable for adults. Remind yourself of your adulthood at the bar and retreat back to elementary school at the prize store.

9. What: Monster Mini Golf

Where: Paramus, New Jersey

This is basically mini golf on steroids. If you’re in the mood for a trippy mini golf excursion, look no further. Monster Mini Golf offers an indoor glow-in-the-dark course, totally unaffected by the weather. On Tuesdays, they offer a two for one Twisted Tuesday…that’s right fellas, take your girl out for a romantic date that your wallet will love!

10. What: Levity Live Comedy Club

Where: Palisades Mall

When it rains, it pours. Am I right? Shake those rainy day blues off with a drink, some comfort food, and some quality humor.

11. What: Sur La Table

Where: The Shops at Nanuet, Garden State Plaza

If you forgot to pay attention in your Home Economics course in middle school, then you’re in luck. Sur La Table offers cooking classes for newbies or seasoned foodies. Obviously, the best part is eating your dish at the end.

12. What: Creatively Yours

Where: Ridgewood, New Jersey

Arts and crafts don’t have to be a thing of the past. Formerly known as “Color Me Mine,” Creatively Yours offers a variety of glass and ceramic bases to paint. You name it, they have it. Bowls, plates, mugs, jewelry dishes, teapots, animals, wall décor galore! I swear when I get married I will be registering here instead of Pottery Barn.

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

1. The Legacy.

Her sister was a member, her mom was a member, all of her aunts were members, and her grandma was a member. She has been waiting her whole life to wear these letters and cried hysterically on bid day. Although she can act entitled at times, you can bet she is one of the most enthusiastic sisters.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer.
