From the 1987 film, "RoboCop," the two characters, RoboCop and Officer Lewis beat Batman and Robin anytime as being the best heroic duo in the history of superheroes for me. Here are five reasons why!
1. RoboCop and Officer Lewis always come to each other's rescue
According to the film, Alex Murphy, a new police officer entering in Detroit, gets brutally murdered by Clarence and his criminal gang. Officer Lewis then, is the one who brings him back to the Detroit police station to save him, but eventually, the company of OCP grabs hold of him in order to seize the opportunity into making him the awesome RoboCop. Another instance is when RoboCop tries to escape from the police officers after Dick Jones of OCP gives the call to attack him, Officer Lewis then comes again to his rescue by driving him away from them. Moreover, RoboCop then confronts Clarence who injures Officer Lewis. In other words, RoboCop comes to her rescue. Lastly, the part when RoboCop gets hit by a big block by one of Clarence's gang members, Leon, but quickly, Lewis grabs the gang's gun and shoots at Leon, and thus saves RoboCop again towards at the end of the film.
2. They help each other maintain a humanistic side
RoboCop is able to remember his previous identity as Alex Murphy after the scene of Officer Lewis, who realizes that RoboCop is Alex Murphy by saying, "Murphy, it's you." Then, he is able to find out that his family such as his wife and son moved away after they were told about his death. RoboCop then truly finds out what he has lost and is upset that he almost forgot his true self. Officer Lewis does not blind away from justice even though she is also given the order to take down RoboCop by Dick Jones. Due to the reason that RoboCop is her partner as police officers, she then truly sees the corrupted side of the OCP Company and Detroit. In addition, Officer Lewis is the only one that RoboCop can reveal his true face to. Besides that, she is also the only one who sincerely says to him, "It's good to see you again, Murphy." Officer Lewis also provides answers to RoboCop whenever he asks about his life as Alex Murphy before becoming RoboCop. Most importantly, she reminds RoboCop of his identity as Murphy by calling him Murphy despite the fact that Bob Morton, the superior behind the RoboCop project tells her, "He doesn't have a name. He's got a program. He's product."
3. They both express great concern for each other
Unlike some superheroes who keep their egotistic personality and pretend not to care about others, Alex Murphy expresses concern for Officer Lewis when she does not respond to him during their mission to capture Clarence and his criminal gang. He also shows his concern, right after he defeats Clarence, to the injured Lewis by shouting out, "Lewis! Lewis!" with a very scared expression on his face as if he has lost another important person in his life other than his wife and son. Fortunately, Lewis answers back to him, "Murphy, I'm a mess!" much to RoboCop's relief. Lewis also places RoboCop's arm around her shoulders and helps him walk when he is deeply injured by the police officers who is under the order of Dick Jones. She then puts him safely in her police car.
4. They encourage each other
When RoboCop could not get his targeting system to function well, Officer Lewis offers him a hand. She then helps him become more precise and clear in his targeting system which subtly empathizes that RoboCop empowers women. Another example is when RoboCop takes out his mask, Officer Lewis never shows any disgust and instead, brings a mirror, encouraging him that he confronts his past, his true self and what he has become.
5. They always want to work together
Even though they are assigned as partners for their first mission at the beginning of the film, they both are still willing and happy to work together again. This is shown evident during the part when RoboCop tells Officer Lewis to leave as Clarence and his criminal gang infiltrate their hiding place but Officer Lewis responds back to him, "Hey, we're partners," making RoboCop secretly smile. He then commands her to grab her police car and she obeys without hesitation. Then, RoboCop and Officer Lewis are able to divide Clarence from his gang and work together to defeat Clarence. This then leads RoboCop to defeat Dick Jones and is able to keep his identity as Murphy at the end of the film.
In short, this duo, RoboCop and Officer Lewis, is the key factor in making this film, "RoboCop" great to watch again and again!
