I Went On A Road Trip and It Mended My Soul

I recently took a road trip and drove through the states down the east coast. I took a stop in Washington D.C. and did some tourist things like seeing the White House and the Lincoln Memorial. The next stop was in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where my hotel was on the beach itself. It was absolutely beautiful here even in beginning of January. It was 70 degrees and sunny which was a nice break from the 20 degrees and snowy up north. The last stop was in Nashville, Tennessee, which was my favorite stop. It was really incredible to see more into the culture in other places while on this trip.

Traveling is so important. When you get stuck in a regular daily routine, you forget about the rest of the world and all of the other things going on. Taking a step out of that truly gives you perspective on how big the world is and how different places are. When I got to Nashville, I immediately felt like I was just supposed to be there. There were so many things to see and do and it was amazing. I was able to listen to to so much great music from live bands and even got to sing with some! That was by far the highlight of my trip.

I encourage absolutely everyone to travel like this. I have never felt to content somewhere until I got to Nashville. That is something that is so great about life. It can take you anywhere and make you feel at home. This is something everyone should experience especially if you are feeling lost or stuck. I cannot express the relief that comes with finding a place that makes those feelings go away. In life, you go through everyday doing the same things. Sometimes, those things aren’t enough to truly make you happy. If you can’t figure out what exactly is stopping you from being completely happy, take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Maybe it’s not one little thing, but it’s a bunch of things. The hard part is figuring out what to do about it. Starting fresh seems pretty scary but once you do it, it all becomes worth it.

Adventuring through the world is important in cleansing the soul. How can you learn and grow as a person if you stay in one place your entire life? There are endless opportunities and things to experience out there. As you see new places, you learn so much more about yourself, too. You learn how far you can step outside of your comfort zone, how much your patience can be tested, how adventurous and spontaneous you can really be. It is also and aid for stress relief which we all need every now and then. Time seems to slow down when you are traveling or on a vacation because all the worries in the world take some time off from bothering you and you can focus on yourself and feeling content. Traveling also can open your mind and provide you education on other cultures. Different cities and states and countries all have distinctive quirks and beliefs. Experiencing them can open your mind and heart to different ways of life. This is another factor that can help you grow and learn.

Overall, traveling is a necessity in life. If you are ever feeling stuck, lost, or alone, take a trip and go somewhere that you have never been before. You might just find somewhere that truly feels like home.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
