Jesus Christ was beaten and mocked and suffered until His last breath on the cross. But it didn't stop there. After everyone thought death had conquered Him, He conquered death. He was resurrected three days later and proved the world that He was the Son of God. But again, it doesn't stop there.
After Jesus was resurrected, the tomb He was in was empty. Mary Magdalene went to His tomb and found two angels in the tomb where Jesus had lain. The angels said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" Mary then replied, "They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him." After she said that, she turned around and found Jesus standing behind her, but she did not know it was Him. Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?"
Right here, Jesus is already teaching. He was just risen from the grave and came back as He said He would. But, they didn't trust that. Her and His disciples wanted to trust and hope that He was coming back, but they didn't because their actions didn't demonstrate that they did. They went to the tomb expecting Him to be there, even though Jesus said to them clearly that He wouldn't be there. He asked Mary point blank, "Whom are you seeking?" He wasn't asking her because He didn't know, He asked her to make her realize her mistrust in Him.
But, He didn't come back to make His ego bigger, He came back to show the world that He is who He says He is. He is God, He is Alpha and the Omega, He is the One that they had hoped for. He can not only do miracles in others' lives, but He can conquer death and show them a miracle in His own life that will then penetrate into their lives as well.
That's what God was doing then and even now, today. He is still asking you when you're going to a tomb of something that has been dead, "Whom are you seeking?" or what are you seeking? Why are you looking for a dead body when you know God has said it will come back in a glorified state? Maybe this is a dead relationship that you want to be revived. Maybe this is a hope for having children that you never had. But God says, "Why are you weeping?" Cling to the word that God said and trust in that. Maybe that relationship is dead so that another relationship can bloom. Maybe adopting a child is God's plan for your life instead of having children of your own. We can never fully understand why things happen the way they do, but we can fully trust that God knows what He's doing and that it's not our job to understand. It's our job to hope and trust in Him.
