Hey, ladies! Having a rough day? Did some creepy guy just shout 'Hey babe!' at you on the street? Need some girl empowerment? May I suggest the raw power of feminist punk rock known as 'riot grrl'?

Riot Grrl punk is a feminist punk movement in which women and men thrive to make changes to a male dominated society by being in bands, creating art and writing zines. Riot grrrl bands often address issues such as rape, domestic abuse, sexuality, racism and female empowerment.

Riot Grrl punk has definitely changed my life for the better. Bands like Bikini Kill, Sleater Kinney and Bratmobile have gotten me through some of the lowest points of my life because their lyrics taught me how to love myself and not to let anyone get in my way.

So, here are some Riot Grrl tracks that you and all your girls can jam out to together when things are getting rough:

1. "Double Dare Ya" - Bikini Kill

Dare ya to do what you want
Dare ya to be who you will
Dare ya to cry right out loud

2. "Cool Schmool"- Bratmobile

I don't wanna wonder if you're gonna say hello

I don't wanna wonder if you're gonna walk away

I don't wanna hear how many friends you have
'cause I don't have any anymore

3. "Pretend That We're Dead"- L7

Turn the tables with our unity
They neither moral nor majority
Wake up and smell the coffee
Or just say no to individuality

4. "Dig Me Out"- Sleater Kinney

Dig me out
Dig me in
Out of this mess
Baby, out my head
What do you want?
What do you know?
One to get started
Three till we go

5. "Bruise Violet"- Babes in Toyland

You see the stars through
Eyes lit up with lies
You got your stories
All twisted up in mine
You got this thing that
Follows me around
You were born with glue
Instead of spine

6. "Oh! Bondage Up Yours" - X-Ray Spex

Some people think little girls should be seen and not heard
But I think "oh bondage, up yours!

7. "Cherry Bomb"- The Runaways

Hello, daddy. Hello, mom.
I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb!
Hello, world! I'm your wild girl.
I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb!

8. "Kool Thing"- Sonic Youth

I just want to know, what are you gonna do for me?
I mean, are you gonna liberate us girls
From male white corporate oppression?

9. "Townie"- Mitski

And I want a love that falls as fast
As a body from the balcony, and
I want a kiss like my heart is hitting the ground
I'm holding my breath with a baseball bat
Though I don't know what I'm waiting for
I am not gonna be what my daddy wants me to be

10. "50 Ft. Queenie” - PJ Harvey

Hey I'm one big queen
No one can stop me
Red light, red green
Sat back, I'm watchin'
I'm number one
Second to no one
No sweat I'm clean
Nothin' can touch me

Make sure to check these tracks out! Trust me, you'll thank me.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
