Right Here, Right Now

"Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow..."

Right Here, Right Now

Each day is a gift. Each day is full of more opportunities. Each day is another day to do something BIG for God. But how often do we take advantage of TODAY? Because we aren't promised tomorrow.

So often we think about the future and what we’re doing next week, or what we’re even going to do with the rest of our lives. I am talking to myself here, too. And don’t get me wrong, these are things that need to be considered and thought about. But how often do we dwell on them too much? Are we letting these things that are supposed to happen next week, next month, or next year that we aren’t even promised get in the way of what’s happening right now in this very moment?

How often have we worried so much about texting our friends making plans for next weekend that we have completely missed the guy sitting alone at lunch? How often are we walking across campus lost in thought about what we’re going to do over Christmas break that we don’t see the girl crying because her grandmother just passed away?

Casting Crowns’ tour this fall is based on a song called “The Very Next Thing” and here are a few of the lyrics:

“I spend all my time dreaming what the future’s gonna bring. When all of this time, there’s a world passing by right in front of me. Set my sights on tomorrow while I’m tripping over today.”

And some of my favorites: “Who says big things are somewhere off in the distance? I don’t want to look back just to see all the times that I missed it. I want to be here and now, starting right here, right now.”

Who says you can’t make a HUGE impact for the Lord right HERE, right NOW?

Maybe you are going to be there to encourage a friend with a broken heart. That might not be a world-shaking, mountain moving thing to do, but it could be HUGE for them! Go get ice cream with them or just listen. Be that friend. Be the hands and feet of Jesus for them.

Always, always, always be on the lookout for a way that God can use you in His Kingdom because He will! He uses the servants that are eager and willing to do anything that they can to make an impact for HIM, not for themselves, but for the LORD!

Be on the lookout today for ways that YOU can serve others for HIM!

“Eyes wide open, I see You working. All around me, You’re on the move. Step by step I’m running to meet You in the next thing.” - The Very Next Thing

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
