This afternoon as I was driving towards San Diego, something incredible happened.
I saw dark clouds rolling in from the ocean. The next thing I knew, a drop of rain hit my windshield. Then multiple drops of rain hit my windshield. I was in the middle of a rare sprinkling of rain in southern California.
So, what does this rare weather phenomena mean?
It means fall has officially blessed its sweet, pumpkin-filled self to the world!
Sitting here at Peet's drinking my dark chocolate pumpkin mocha, I'm reminded of all the reasons I love fall. Now, I know what you're thinking: this girl lives in San Diego where people pull out their scarves if it gets below 70 degrees, how does she know what fall is? I'm fully aware that the palm trees all over don't change colors in the fall (unfortunately), and I will never be truly able to experience a fall rainstorm in its full glory. Despite these facts, fall is still my favorite season.
One of the reasons I love fall is because of all the colors. Maroon, plum, deep grey, mustard yellow -- these are the colors that speak to me in my dreams at night. Everywhere you look, fall colors make their presence known. You can't walk ten feet in the grocery store without seeing the colors orange, yellow, or red. Sure, spring with all of its floral and pastels is nice, but let's be real, people would judge me if I pulled out my dark plum lipstick on Easter Sunday.
Fall is what I would like to call the "in-between" time of year. Gone are summer days filled with lemonade, searching for the perfect wave, and sleeping in late. Yet, the winter days filled with hot chocolate, peppermint, and watching Elf twenty times are still a distance away. So, in comes fall. For me, fall is a time of reflection of where I've been the past year and where I'm going. It's a time to think about how your life is going.
If you ask me, fall doesn't get enough credit as being a great time of year. Before being enlightened to joys that fall brings, summer was definitely my favorite season. Summer meant no school, the beach, and of course, my birthday! Through the years though, I would always get bored during the summer. But with fall, there's always something to do (school being one of them). There's carving pumpkins for Halloween, drinking apple cider, watching Netflix with a blanket around you, and counting down the days until Thanksgiving break.
Regardless of where you live, take a little time out of your day to enjoy fall. For my East Coast friends, this means snapping a picture of all the leaves changing colors for your deprived West Coast buds. So pull on a sweater, warm up some hot tea, and enjoy the most wonderful time of the year.
