Most people probably know the infamous show known as "Rick and Morty" on Adult Swim. If you don't know the show, basically it's a genius grandfather taking his grandson on continuous adventures. (Watch the show. I promise you it will be worth your time.) Filled with wit, intellect, and the colorful imagination of Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, this television series can pack a punch. After watching the series several times, I've rounded up a few of my favorite "Rick and Morty" quotes.
"Listen to me, Morty. I know that new situations can be intimidating. You're looking around and it's all scary and different. But y'know, meeting them head on, charging into 'em like a bull, that's how we grow as people."
During the first episode, Rick takes Morty out of school to go collect some special seeds he needs for his scientific work. Once they're on the planet that has these seeds, Rick has to calm Morty down from the craziness unfolding right before their eyes.
This quote not only applies on the show, but in real life. Starting a new chapter in a person's life can be scary, and frankly, overwhelming. But Rick's quote gives wisdom on how to make the best out of a new situation by learning how to grow as a person from it.
"Life is effort and I'll stop when I die!"
Rick's son-in-law and Morty's father, Jerry Smith, quoted this one. And listen, this is probably the only quote that's worth mentioning from Jerry. His role in the series is to be the pathetic, idiot husband of Rick's brilliant daughter, Beth.
With that being said though, I do think this quote has some deep meaning to it. What you get out of life is what you put into it. If you stop trying, you're never going to be able to become the person you've always wanted to be. Putting in time and effort for everything is how you will succeed in your life.
"Having a family doesn't mean that you stop being an individual."
Even though a lot of us don't have a family yet, I do think this quote has some great value to it. A character called "Mr. Meeseeks" said this one, and I think it is quite true in this day and age.
Many parents give up their interests and passions to support their children. Hell, a lot of us do this when we get into relationships. But just because you're investing into someone else, doesn't mean that you have to lose who you are. Committing to what you love and who you love is a key to being happy in this world.
"Nobody exists on purpose. Nobody belongs anywhere. Everybody's going to die. Come watch tv."
For those of you reading this quote, you're probably wondering to yourself on why the hell I put it in my life of quotes that you need in your life. That's a fair question.
Morty tells his sister Summer this quote after Rick introduces the family to inter-dimensional cable. Even though it sounds ridiculously bleak, it has a truth to it that many of us prefer to ignore. We live in an infinite universe, filled with knowledge and understanding that we may never get to see. What you can take from this quote is that when it comes down to it, we really don't matter. But we can find happiness in the simple things, like watching tv or spending time with our loved ones.
"I'm sorry, but your opinion means very little to me."
Rick Sanchez, ladies and gentlemen. The king of sass and not caring at all. In all honesty, some of Rick says should be taken to heart. This quote is one of them.
Learning how to not care what other people think about you is a great way to feel better about yourself. People are always going to criticize you or not accept you no matter what you do. Realizing which people's opinions matter and which people's don't will give you freedom to be exactly what you want to be: yourself.
"Get your shit together. Get it all together and put it in a backpack- all your shit. So it's together. And if you gotta take it somewhere, take it somewhere, you know? Take it to the shit store and sell it. Or put it in a shit museum. I don't care what you do. You just gotta get your shit together. Get your shit together."
Probably one of the most famous quotes on the show. Morty tells this to his sister when she's worried about Tiny Rick, a version of Rick as a teenager. Morty saying this was meant to be witty, but it can be more helpful than providing comedic relief.
Everyone is going through something in their life. No matter how big or how small, everyone has got some type of problem. However, having an issue doesn't mean that you can't get through it, and well, get your shit together. It doesn't matter how long it takes you or how you get through it.
"You shouldn't take things for granite."
Before I continue with this quote, granite is not a typo. It's actually what was said. Even though Morty didn't quite get the message about taking things for granted, it strikes a good point.
Most of us are so used to the lives that we have that we don't realize how lucky we are. If something were to happen such as a natural disaster or the world imploding, or even something simple as losing a loved one, our lives would change. Appreciating everything that is given to you in life is an important concept in trying to stay happy.
Well, that's all for now folks. If you loved these quotes, "Rick and Morty" is available on Hulu.
