Richmond has named 20 players from last year's premiership win over Greater Western Sydney for Thursday night's season-opener against Carlton at the MCG.

The Tigers have opted to go with proven ruckmen Toby Nankervis and Ivan Soldo for the first game of the season, with young gun Callum Coleman-Jones named as an emergency.

One-game wonder Marlion Pickett will play his first game since that unforgettable, historic debut last September, following an impressive first pre-season at Punt Road.

Carlton recruits Jack Martin and Jack Newnes will face the Tigers for the first time in navy blue, while Marc Pittonet has been named as an emergency.

Co-captain Sam Docherty is set to play his first AFL game since the end of 2017, while Sam Petrveski-Seton has been named in David Teague's 22 despite missing the entire Marsh Community Series.

With Charlie Curnow, Harry McKay and Eddie Betts all sidelined with injuries, Mitch McGovern and Levi Casboult will spearhead Carlton's attack.

At this stage, the rest of the Round 1 teams will be named at 6.20pm (AEDT) on Thursday night.
