1. Ashland Berry Farm

This is without a doubt one of my favorite Halloween activities to do. Whether you are wanting to go during the day for the pumpkins and festivities, or at night for a scary, yet fun experience! During the day, Ashland Berry Farm offers many activities such as a country store, hayrides, and a pumpkin patch with all you can carry pumpkins for only $20! Starting on October 1st, they offer an amazing haunted event called "Terror On The Farm" at night. They have a variety of things at Ashland Berry Farm at night such as a hayride where they take you through a corn maze, they drop you off and then you have to run back while people dressed up chase you or scare you. My personal favorite is offer the haunted houses with clowns or dolls. Ashland Berry Farm has four different scare activities that range in price, but you can do all of them for 30$. It is a little bit pricier, but completely worth the trip.
2. Richmond Folk Festival

This event has been around for a very long and is a huge crowd pleaser. This event is very kid friendly toward the community and also has many things to do. The festival takes place during the fall season and it allows folk music, art, history, and food. This event takes place right in the middle of the city on Brown's Island and hosts more than 125,000 people each year. Admission is free to the event, the only payments made are things that you choose to buy at the festival. This is definitely one of the most beloved events that takes place in Richmond.

Who doesn't love apple picking while enjoying the view from the top of a mountain? Carter's mountain is a beautiful orchard that is located in Charlottesville, Virginia. They offer a variety of things throughout the entire year. Their biggest celebration is the apple festivities they provide from September to November that allows customers to pick apples of their choice through the entire orchard. The earlier you go in the season, the more choice you will have to which apples you want! Carter's mountain offers many "apple things" including apple cider, apple cider donuts (which are so good!), apple butter, and apple pie. Carter's mountain offers a lot more than just apples in the fall; they also have a pumpkin patch, hayrides, and wine tastings. Carter's Mountain is such a fun family activity or just a way to spend a day with someone!
4. Richmond's Restaurant Week

This is a very unique event that goes through Richmond each year. This event happens for a week, usually in October, and is it when local restaurants around the city participate to giving back to their community. There is a certain percentage of sales that come from the specific restuarants that when you eat there, it is benefiting the community as well. The contributions to the community will be donated to help provide meals for neighbors in need. In 2015 alone, the organization raised $114,029.55, which translates to hundred of thousands meals for those in need. This event is a great event that anybody can participate in, no ticket or anything needed. For the list of restaurants, visit their website!
