7 New Additions to the University of Richmond Campus This Year

As we know, the Richmond campus is constantly changing. From simple things last year like adding yellow Gatorade in Dhall, to bigger things such as the renovation of Thomas and Jeter Dorms, we can look forward to major and minor modifications to our campus every year.

Queally Center for Admissions and Career Services

This 54,000 square feet, 3-story-tall giant popped up over the summer and it's breathtaking, like every other building on campus. This facility is basically the "front door" of campus and is the first major building visitors will see when they pull onto campus. It houses five departments: Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, Bursar and Career Services, as well as a banquet hall. The building is nearly complete and its architectural artistry is worth a walk through and look around.

Speed Bumps

The speed bumps are a seemingly minor addition, but an annoying obstacle for those of us driving on campus. The school removed all of the speed bumps on campus for the UCI Road World Championships last school year, and this year the speedbumps are back with reprisal. The road leading from the intramural tennis courts, past the International Center and down to the lake is abounding with way too many speed bumps.

Traffic Patterns

Like the speed bumps, the traffic patterns are a seemingly minor change unless you have a car on campus. They've added turn lanes next to the intramural tennis courts that lead off campus. They've also added a stop sign at the intersection behind the Business School and removed the yield sign from the other side of the intersection. Major moves people.

Open Road in Front of Gray

Finally, after having to circumvent the campus due to construction on North, they've reopened the road in front of Gray. So now you can get an Uber at night directly in front of the building instead of having to walk a few meters in the all-encompassing Richmond dark.

Mongolian Grill

In an effort to accommodate students with gluten allergies, the Dhall staff has started distributing the noodles separate from the rest of the food.

Dhall Prices

Textbook prices are rising, but our Dhall prices are doing quite the opposite. Shockingly, Richmond has lowered the price of something for its students. To students without a meal plan: Dhall has reduced its prices this year. So throw out your packaged ramen and head to the dining hall for fancy ramen.

Waffle Maker

Our beloved Dhall waffle maker that stamps our signature spider mascot on it has been replaced with a regular old waffle maker. Are we peasants or something?

University of Richmond is boasting some new showy buildings and speed bumps this year, so be sure to check it all out!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
