You know that feeling when you are listening to a song and your heart cannot stop beating?

The relatable words that spit out the thoughts you cannot put into words.

The beat. That crazy yet controlled beat that gets you hype in your seat or relaxed in your bedroom.

The acoustics that bounce right off the walls only to fall right back into your ears.

It’s amazing. It’s indescribable.

But, have you ever thought about WHY or HOW music does this to us? How is music this universal language that everyone knows and understands?

According to Psychology Today, “It can be argued that music is a core function in our brain... When we satisfy our desire to eat, to sleep, or reproduce, our brain releases dopamine--the "feel good" neurochemical involved when we experience pleasure and reward. Turns out this same chemical is released when listening to music.”

In other words, listening to is like falling in love...or eating a REALLY good piece of pizza.

In addition. There are so many different types of genres of music. Pop, Rock, R&B, Hip-Hop and Rap, Metal, Alternative, Country, EDM: the list could go on forever.

Music gets people through thick and thin. Friends, family, love, hate, fear, rejection, death: the list could go on forever.

Most importantly, music is not only for a certain type of person, it is for everyone because there is something there for everyone. As mentioned before, music can say the things we do not know how to say, which is truly powerful.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone
Youtube

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
