As I move into my new dorm at Villanova, I cannot help but recall back to my first year. I remember driving down Lancaster Avenue for the first time with my mom. The car was packed with boxes and luggage and my mind was full of feelings of uncertainty and excitement. In honor of all the freshies moving in on cam today, this is my list of thoughts and concerns from when I first moved to Villanova.
"I feel as if I am the only person who doesn't know his or her major."
"How am I supposed to split a closet three ways?"
"If it's below sixty degrees, do I break out the winter jacket?"
"How am I supposed to pay for four years of tuition?"
"I do not want to be the only person who misses home."
"What if I don't get along with my roommates?"
"I feel like I am not qualified enough to be here."
"What do you mean New Jersey people don't know how to pump gas?"
"I have no idea how to do laundry."
"I have no idea what I want to do when I graduate."
Even if you feel like the only person on campus who feels stressed or out of place, I promise you're not alone. Talking to your friends, professors, or whomever your support system is can help break this isolated feeling. Freshman year can be terrifying because of the fear of the unknown, but you have your people to get you through it.
