"Dear Future Husband" Rewritten!

We decided to rewrite the words to Meghan Trainor's "Dear Future Husband" in order to fit OUR ideas of a healthy relationship.

I have a love/hate relationship with Meghan Trainor's "Dear Future Husband." It's extremely catchy and fun to sing, yet it does not send the best message, and doesn't really reflect what I know I want in a relationship or marriage further down the road.

My friend, Jennifer Lewis, and I spent some time looking over Meghan Trainor's lyrics and we made our own version of the song. Please enjoy! (Also, we made a recording of our version of the song so you can listen as you read along, or just watch the video, because we had a ton of fun making it!!) (Also, SO SO SO much credit to Jen for EVERYTHING! She is such a wonderful human being who is very talented in guitar and video editing, MUCH more so than I am!)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Dear Future Husband: As Revised and Performed by Kara Barkman and Jennifer Lewis

Dear future husband

Here's a few things

You'll need to know if you wanna be

My one and only all my life.

Take me on a date

We both deserve a break

But know we each can live our individuality

‘Cause if we have respect

I know we’ll never get

Treated awfully

Truh-treated awfully

You got a job to do

But, baby, I do too

So don't be thinking I'll be home and making noodle soup

I may have learned to cook

But you can take a look

And bake along with me

Or make some food with me (Hey)

You gotta know how to treat me well, honey

Even when I'm acting funny

Know we all have those times

Dear future husband

Here's a few things you'll need to know if you want to be

My one and only all my life

Dear future husband

If you wanna laugh and go adventurin’

We’ve gotta learn to trust each other all the time

After every fight

Just apologize

And maybe we can go try to find a compromise

Even when I’m wrong

We’ll just sing this song

That’s all I need

That’s, that’s all I need

You gotta know how to treat me well, honey

Even when I'm acting funny

Know we all have those times

Dear future husband

Here's a few things

You'll need to know if you want to be

My one and only all my life (Hey, baby)

Dear future husband

Make time for me

Don't leave me lonely

But I’ll understand you when you hang with all the guys

I understand you have your own identity

And please just recognize the same goes for me

Let’s live harmoniously

And then I’m sure we’ll be

Living happily

Live-living happily

You gotta know how to treat me well, honey

Even when I'm acting funny

Know we all have those times

Dear future husband

Here's a few things

You'll need to know if you want to be

My one and only all my life

Dear future husband

If you wanna laugh and go adventurin’

We’ve gotta learn to trust each other all the time

Future husband, our love will be alright

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
