Mae West (Aug. 17, 1893 – Nov. 22, 1980) was a phenomena. Her acting career spanned four decades and her acting career started later in life. When she was approaching the age of 40, she was offered a motion picture contract from Paramount Pictures. That's surprisingly old for a woman to enter the film industry as a sex symbol.
