A Review Of Registering For Classes

This week was my first college experience registering for classes. Since Villanova handles freshman fall schedules, freshmen have their first registration after their first semester. After going through it, I hope that I never have to register for classes again (but that's unfortunately not a possibility). It’s looking like my spring semesters' schedule will be as tough as the Giants’ season this year. I had one of the last time slots on the last day of registration, which explains my five 8:30s next semester. Here I am, content to whine about my schedule problems online where it will definitely not have an impact.

Registration time

The first class time is also the same as my registration time - 8:30. Registration is about a week long, and as a freshman I am on the last day with a late slot. By the time I looked at my options, half of the classes were gone, especially the good times and good professors. In addition, I had recommended my teachers to a few friends who had earlier times, and they got their classes.

The week leading up

Before registration, students were able to create potential schedules on the website, Schedulr. There were some who had four schedules created, while I had only one, and slowly watched my preferred classes fill up. I was left to frantically ask friends about teachers they had previously had and then I just had to hope for the best. Unfortunately, that did not work out.

Registering

As a freshman, I had never registered for classes before. Thinking that everybody was trying to get in the same classes I was, registration was a race against the clock. I felt like someone attempting to defuse a bomb. Too bad my schedule turned out to be exactly that - an explosion of terrible classes.

My schedule

I am going to treasure every night of this semester, because in the spring, I have 8:30s every day. Then on a few days a week, I have an awkward six-hour break before my next class. This semester, all my classes were back to back, and two days a week classes begin at 11:30 - which means I can go to bed at 2 a.m, and still get eight hours of sleep. Isn't that the goal in college? If so, I will not be accomplishing that in the spring.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

In the 12 years since it went off the air, "Friends" continues to be adored by millions. Here are 17 times Ross, Monica, Joey, Chandler, Phoebe and Rachel accurately described life.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:
