Spoiler Alert! This article contains spoilers for the new Captain America Movie!!!!
To start off, I am a huge fan of Marvel. After this movie, I think I might just be an even bigger fan.
The movie starts off with the team on a mission in Lagos, Nigeria, where Rumlow/Crossbones from the previous installment, Captain America: The Winter Solider, is attempting to steal a biological weapon. The mission goes awry when Wanda/Scarlet Witch attempts to save Steve/Captain America from an explosion and blows up a building instead. This is the starting point of the action-packed thriller that had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
The plot is mainly driven by the events after the incident in Lagos. The Sokovia Accords are proposed to the UN, but at the meeting an explosion is set off, and the main suspect ends up being Bucky Barnes, Steve’s best friend from World War Two as well as the Winter Solider. The Avengers, minus Thor and the Hulk/Bruce Banner, are at war over how to deal with bringing Bucky in, and if the Sokovia Accords would actually work when apprehending Bucky.
Once again, I was hooked from start to finish, mesmerized by the special effects and the epic fight scenes. I teared up at least two times, and laughed obnoxiously more times than I can count. Marvel’s latest installment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was an instant hit for me.
One of the things done in Civil War that had me worried up until I actually watched was the addition of Spiderman. I know many people were worried about how Spiderman was going to be portrayed, and were disgruntled that we were getting another high school version of him on the big screen. Marvel utilized Spiderman’s character flawlessly, and watching the interactions between his character and other characters, like Captain America and Iron Man, were perfect for his character, a teenager who is able to work with his idols. I give the actor Tom Holland many thumbs up.
Marvel really knows how to fully develop their characters, and have them interact with each other. One of the more lighthearted parts of this mature installment that was great was the interaction between The Falcon/Sam Wilson and Bucky. Despite the mature elements of this film, the light humor between these two characters stuck out to me, and I can’t help but mention this. Almost every interaction had my theater dying in their seats laughing, it was great and there is isn’t really more to say about it.
Again with Marvel’s character development, though. Because Marvel really knows how to develop their characters, I was completely torn at watching this super-family fight each other, to what seemed to be near-death. The brilliant writing and acting made it feel as if this Civil War wasn’t just a film. This film has opened the summer off with a bang, and has left many comic book fans craving more. Let’s just say you’ll probably see me in the theaters to watch these legends battle again.
