This past Thursday, my girlfriend's mom surprised us with tickets to see Cirque Du Soleil's OVO. She invited me on my first Girls Night Out with their family and I was thrilled. I had been wanting to see the show for a while but hadn't done anything about it.
Cirque Du Soleil has built up a reputation over the past few decades, with wonderful theatrical performances and some of the best performers I've ever seen. Anyone who has seen any of their shows will say that they are filled with fantastic visuals and extraordinary entertainment. OVO definitely lines up with that expectation.
Cirque has a line-up of 21 shows with approximately 1,300 performers. They tour worldwide with various shows running currently. There is a wide variety of themes, ranging from a retro steampunk show to an eye-opening look into the world of insects. OVO was directed and created by Deborah Colker who took inspiration from the tiny world that surrounds us. 'Ovo' translated from Portuguese literally means egg, which is what the plot is based upon. A rather quirky fly brings a large egg into a community of lively bugs which causes this delicate ecosystem to go into a wild frenzy.
From the spirited ants juggling various fruits vegetables and fellow ants on their feet, to comedic act performed by the large creature resembling a slinky, all the way to the crickets using trampolines to tumble at rapid speed, OVO was a terrific show for all ages. The show is captivating and is perfect for a family, a date, or as in my case a girls night out. If the show comes near you, I would recommend seeing it.
OVO plays through the end of 2017 in various locations across the world. Tickets can be bought online.
