Khloe Kardshian, the youngest Kardashian sister, was always known for being the "fat" sister when compared to Kim and Kourtney Kardashian. For many fans, she's the favorite sister, the most down-to-earth. Keeping Up With the Kardashians is widely considered a guilty pleasure by most that watch the show. However, Khloe's new project is anything but a guilty pleasure.
Khloe received a lot of attention after her split from Lamar Odom. In order to cope with her separation, Khloe turned to working out rather than food. Her weight loss was quickly trademarked as her "revenge body", and from there, her new show on the E! network was created.
Revenge Body debuted on January 12, 2017, and since then, mixed reviews have come out. On the show's IMDB page, it has a rating of 3.8/10. Negative reviews have been more common that positive ones. Khloe has been critiqued for poor mentoring. The entire philosophy of the show has been slammed.
Many people, including doctors and health experts, have spoken up against the show's use of the contestant's primary purpose for losing weight to be about getting revenge on someone else. It's very unhealthy, self-esteem wise, to lose weight for someone else or with negative thoughts driving the plot of the show.
My initial reaction to the show was the same, but I watched it anyways. Khloe, I think, is a good role model because of her honesty and transparency in life. She's a strong woman and deserves to be celebrated, regardless of her fame. However, the show's concept scared me.
Being overweight, I've always known that you must better yourself for you, not anyone else. As I watched Revenge Body, it made me incredibly uncomfortable to hear the people's stories on how they wanted to get back at their ex-boyfriend and ex-friend. It made me sad for them. They weren't doing it for themselves.
Khloe used all of her connections to match the contestants up with the best trainers for them. She got one of them treatments with one of the best dermatologists in the country. They received the star treatment. They lost weight, experiencing some hardships on the way, but they reached their goals. Eventually, they understood that they didn't need to get into shape for anyone else but themselves.
I think that the show's season needs to be played out. If the show is able to continue, the focus needs to be taken away from the title and more about getting the contestants to realize that they cannot change themselves in order to get back at someone but that they need to be comfortable with themselves and that their opinion of themselves is the only one that matters. Happiness within is more important than trying to receive attention or confirmation from anyone else.
Catch Revenge Body every Thursday at 7 p.m. CT on the E! network, and form your own opinion about the Kardashian clan's new associated project.
