Moving back to school is the best, but moving back into your sorority house is almost an indescribable feeling. I am going to do my best to tell you just how great it is. If you have a home away from home, you know how hard it is to leave and how great it is to return. Not only are you returning to back to your humble abode, but also your oh so wonderful, huge and loving family, or as others would say, your sorority sisters.
The drive, which is usually a dread, and most likely very hazardous because your car is packed to the brim with all of your clothes, decorations and bedding, is still somehow the most exciting drive you have ever embarked on. If you are like me you drive with a stupid smile on your face and your favorite jams on because at the end your long drive and even longer summer you will return home.
Hands down the best part of coming home is the hugs. Not like the awkward hugs you give to a long distant relative that you have not seen for years. They are more easily compared to a tackle with a scream at the beginning. If the hug happens outside, strangers will have a confused and scared look on their face. When they happen inside multiple girls are seen running down the halls to join in the love.
Coming home is weird in the sense that you feel like you have been gone for a century (when it has only been a short summer), but after unpacking, you felt like you never even left.
I am so lucky to have the family that I do at school. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard that college is the best years of your life and to make the most of it. Well, I could not do that without these girls in my life. I never imagined I would be living in a mini mansion during college where we sing (scream) show tunes throughout the house and fit 50 girls in the living room to watch a movie that we know every line to. Do your remember when you were younger and having a slumber party during the school week was unheard of? That happens literally every night and it is so great. Not to mention we have the most incredible house mom who sews the tears in our clothes, crafts with us, and makes a mean root beer float.
Your home away from home may not be a sorority house, but we can all agree whatever that home may be we are pretty darn lucky to have it and just in case you have not heard it as much as I have, enjoy everyday of school. College is really great and before you know it, it is going to be all over. Go to class and do not spend all of your money on food.
