Retail during the holidays is one of the most stressful times for an employee. The best news is that you are working with several other people, but retail during the holidays is different than the regular work you do during January-October.
1. The people. People during the holidays are much more demanding and get easily frustrated with employees like it's our fault we don't have something in stock.
2. Lines. There are constantly lines. Lines when you first open, lines for the registers, lines to get to items on the shelves.
3. Stocking items becomes impossible. Since people are constantly there, the store is constantly a mess. There is no point to organizing product if it is just going to be ruined.
4. Hours change. Your store is open earlier and closed later.
5. You work more. With hours changing and the store being busier means that you're working more than you were before.
6. Going through inventory is actually kind of fun. You're constantly getting new things in your store so you're actually enjoying going through boxes.
7. Being at the cash register all day can give you a head-ache. When you have no break between angry costumers, it will make your day longer. Counting their coupons is even more exhausting.
8. Even if you're tired, you have to pretend that you're wide awake.Coffee becomes your new best friend.
9. Hearing the same 15 Christmas on repeat for 8 hours straight. Hey Santa, The Grinch, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer are always in your head.
10. You see your co-workers so much that you become friends. Extra hours means more time with your co-workers.
