It’s only a few short days until Christmas. Every store is stuffed to the gills with merchandise. The holiday season has everything you could possibly want and you are walking into your favorite go-to store for Christmas shopping when you run out of ideas. This place has it all; clothes, accessories, toys for the kids and a movie for dad. It also has one other thing: employees. That employee standing across the counter for you has had a long day. They have dealt with any number of people during their eight-hour shift and they are just as ready to go home as you are. They are doing the best they can to make it through the day, just like everyone else.

From the employee’s perspective, they have been yelled at that day by someone else who didn’t get their way. The prices weren’t low enough for that customer and the employee was simply doing their job and told them the full price. Employees really aren’t lying when they say that they don’t make the prices. There are rules and guidelines every retail worker must follow. Just because a customer is unhappy with a rule, doesn’t mean that the employee can change it.

For some reason though, people forget what these workers go through on a daily basis to serve you. Retail is by no means the most difficult job in the world but it is not the easiest either. The ease of the job is often dependent on the customers and how they treat the people working. During the holidays, employees are scrambling more than either other time of the year to get everything done and they do it all for the customers. The holiday season is one huge chance to be kind to someone who is doing their best to serve you because, while you are at that store that you always go to, the employees there are trying to provide for themselves and their family.

This holiday season, remember that employees of the retail stores near you are trying to serve you. They want you to have everything on your list from their store so you can have a great holiday season. I’m not saying that every employee of every store is going to be the hardest worker out there because there are people who simply want to come to work to get paid. But just because that is the mindset of a few people, does not mean every retail worker should be treated badly. This holiday season, remember what the season is truly all about. You have your family to think about and so do those employees. Shopping for the holidays can be stressful but it will be much easier for everyone if there is respect from both shopper and employee. No one is faultless and there will be times that the employee is wrong but that is no reason that they should be berated. They will continue to serve you the best they can. Remember to treat employees with respect; they are doing the best they can.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
