Retail Therapy

The theory is true.

If you’re anything like me, you LOVE to shop. Shopping brings so much joy and an excitement in my life that it’s hard to explain. Any time I was ever upset, my mom would always say, “Let do a little “retail therapy” to get you in a better mood.” Well every time, this “retail therapy” turned out to be just what I needed. So if you ever need a reason to feel better about spending money, check out these 5 reasons below!

1. Shopping is a workout

Walking hours to find the items you want and holding heavy bags is almost as exhausting as playing a sport! You may be spending money, but you are also burning calories! Plus, you’re getting more of a workout shopping, than you would be sitting on your sofa watching Netflix. So in the famous words of Carrie Bradshaw, think of shopping as your cardio!

2. You always have something to buy!

This is every girl’s weaknesses. We all go in a store to buy one thing, but come out with six other things. Did we necessarily need to buy them? Maybe or maybe not, but at the time it was a must! And of course if it’s on sale, there’s no question about that! A girl can never go wrong with too many clothes. And even if your closet it full of clothes, there is always a missing accessory. Trust me, I feel you.

3. Shopping is a social activity.

It’s something that most people enjoy doing because everyone likes getting NEW things. It’s the perfect activity to do when you’re wanting to kill time, or hang out with your friends. Shopping gives you the chance to learn everyone’s unique style, and keep up with the latest fashion trends. Plus, “shopping is full of chatting, gossip, brunches, and other fun things that give us our very own SATC experience! Which girl wouldn’t want that!” – Sujata Lyer.

4. We love pretty.

No matter how hard we try, we cannot resist pretty things. The moment we see something that is breathtakingly attractive, we start thinking of reasons why we should buy it. Don’t deny it- we all do it, but it’s OKAY! We as woman have a desire to always look and dress our best. What woman doesn’t like feeling beautiful? So next time you want to buy something, do it and TREAT YOURSELF!

5. Because it makes us happy.

"Why do girls love shopping? The answer is simple; it makes us happy! And don't they say “happy girls are the prettiest?" - Meenu Goel. This quote couldn’t have explained it any better. Shopping may have all kinds of healthy and positive outcomes, but retail therapy is not a textbook theory. It’s actually true. When you are depressed or feeling a little down and out, buying something new can work wonders for your soul. It may not last a long time but the effect is pretty magical.

Shopping may not be the key to long term happiness, but if you’re ever looking for “a little fix”, I would highly suggest to do some RETAIL THERAPY!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
