Exploring the City
I started my day by taking a walk around the city center. Tirana is a bustling metropolis with a population of over 700,000 people, and the city center is home to a variety of shops, restaurants, and cafes. I was struck by the vibrant street art that adorned many of the buildings, which added a unique and colorful touch to the cityscape.
One of the main tourist sites in Tirana is Skanderbeg Square, which is named after the national hero of Albania. The square is home to the equestrian statue of Skanderbeg and the impressive Tirana International Hotel. I also visited The clock Tower ( Sahat Kulla) which was built in 1822 and was the tallest building in Tirana during that time. It is now a symbol of the city and can be seen in most areas in the city center.
Experience the Culture
One of the things that I loved most about Tirana was the friendly and welcoming nature of the locals. Everywhere I went, people were eager to chat and tell me about their city and culture. I went to the Et'hem Bey Mosque which is located in the center of the city and is one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings in Tirana. Also, I had the chance to visit The National History Museum which has great collections of Albanian history artifacts, including artifacts from Illyria, ancient Greece, and the Roman Empire.
Taste the Local Food
When it comes to food, Tirana has a lot to offer. The city is home to a wide variety of restaurants that serve everything from traditional Albanian cuisine to international dishes. I can’t forget about the Sushi I had at wonderbites (a restaurant and cloud kitchen in Tirana) and it was the best I ever had. I also got some Thai and Japanese food from wonderbites to be delivered to the hotel I was staying at.
In addition, I explored some local food junctions and tried other traditional foods like Fërgesë, a dish made from baked vegetables and meat, and byrek, a type of pastry that is filled with meat or cheese. It was a totally new and refreshing food experience for me.
