Sweet tea is the "house wine of the South" and my go-to road trip drink. Not all sweet teas are created equally, though. So, to aid you on your journey, here's a definitive list, from just OK to "slap your mamma" good, of what sweet tea to buy on your next road trip through the South.
1. Wendy's
It's tolerable at best. If you're getting anything but a frosty at Wendy's, you are seriously disturbed.
2. Subway
It's OK and definitely better than Wendy's, in my opinion. But it's far from being the best out there.
3. Burger King
It's also OK and will work if you are thirsting to death, but you probably won't catch me asking for it.
4. Taco Bell
Honestly, if you see me at Taco Bell in general, call the police. It's definitely not me.
5. KFC
It's better than the aforementioned, but not great. It's mediocre.
6. Zaxby's
It's really good tea, and they have the little pellet ice that is easy to eat.
7. Dairy Queen
It's good tea, it just has a little bit of an aftertaste.
8. Popeye's
I like a little bit of tea with my sugar, and this tea satisfies that.
9. Bojangles
It's called legendary for a reason.
10. Mcdonald's
It's really good and you can get a large for $1.
11. Cookout
Goes great with a cookout tray with lots of nuggets on it.
12. Chick-fil-A
Major heart eyes for Chick-fil-A sweet tea.
13. Whataburger
My only issue is that one of their colors is orange. Also, this is a large most places. At Whata, this is a medium. I guess everything from Texas really is bigger.
14. McAllister's Deli
Hand's down the best one of them all.
That's the list, folks. If you didn't catch the correlation, the best place to get sweet tea (fast-food wise) is a place that also serves fried chicken. Happy travels!
