Many Hearts Mourn Over The Passing Of Linda Lee

Rest In Peace To A Beloved Detroit Icon

Cancer. The word causes anyone to stop and get angry or sad, sometimes both. Cancer seems to take the best people, the strongest people, the bravest and the happiest. I grew up in a suburb of Detroit and Country Music was always something my mom would play in the car, I knew the classics of George Strait, the familiar voices of Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney, Reba and the country music nation. Another voice I grew to become familiar with was Linda Lee from 99.5. Every afternoon I would hear her and instantly smile, it was as if she had a charisma about her anyone could sense through the radio. She had a passion for country music, a passion for Detroit and a passion for giving back especially through the St. Jude radio- thon. Only a short few weeks ago cancer took Linda and made her an angel in Heaven.

I took a radio broadcasting class when I was in high school and one of the final assignments was contacting a radio announcer and finding out how they came about in their career, I knew instantly I wanted to contact Linda Lee. I emailed her and she responded and helped me cover all the topics in my class. I learned so much through her, I learned she was a graduate from Specs Howard and had been in the radio business a while. I was able to meet her shortly after at the George Strait concert on Valentines day in 2014. I noticed right away she treated everyone as they were an old friend, she never once let her gorgeous appearance make her seem anything but fun loving and down to earth.

When I heard she was diagnosed with cancer I thought "She's Linda Lee, fearless and strong she will make it through." She shared her personal journey and battles along the way of her sickness, always remaining positive and hopeful for whatever treatment the doctors suggested. Not once did she feel sorry for herself, not once did she ask "why me?" she continued being the humble woman she was. Finding out of her passing was difficult on her co workers, Detroit, country music nation as we are all like a family and especially her family. She was expected to accept the award as top major Market Personality and passed before she was able to accept the honor.

My heart and prayers continue to stay with 99.5, her family, and the country music family. May she rest in peace as I am certain her memory will always live on.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
