Let The Rest Fall Into Place

Let The Rest Fall Into Place

College really makes you realize the important things in life. After my last final, I ran outside in the snow with tears flooding my eyes as my parents drove up in their car to my dorm. My mom's radiant smile could be seen a mile away, and I couldn't wait to hear my dad's legendary jokes. There's nothing I love more than being with my family, especially around the holidays. I knew I was lucky as a child, but college made me admire my parents and their relationship so much more. I grew up in a home filled with laughter and respect. My parents instilled in my brothers and I to always appreciate what you have and to work hard to reach your goals; then, the rest will fall into place.

As a college student, I've spent my first semester focusing on my classes and making my friends. Being on your own requires a huge amount of responsibility and time management that I didn't necessarily know about in high school. I had to learn how to make decisions on my own, and many nights I spent studying for exams rather than going out with my friends.

Despite being 19 years old, I have learned so much this semester. I've grown much stronger and confident as a person and I'm no longer afraid of the future. I used to spend my nights wondering and replaying scenarios in my head. I was ultimately letting my past keep me from living my life. This semester taught me to love myself and the person I've become. I really believe that everything happens for a reason.

My first semester of college taught me to be hopeful for the future. I'm finally confident and optimistic for what tomorrow will bring. My life is just beginning, and I am learning each and everyday what I want out of my life. Someday ten years down the road I'll hope to have what my parents found. The kind of love that is built around kindness, respect, and living life to the fullest. Although, for now, I'll just appreciate living on a beautiful campus with incredible people and let the rest fall into place.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
