Following the election on November 8, I have made it my job to watch people’s responses, physical and verbal, to Donald Trump winning the election. While, many expected people to have rejections and some choice words to say, physically I had no idea what to expect. This was my first year to vote, along with many of my peers and this has prepared us for the elections to come.
Scrolling through my feed on Facebook, I took note of many of the comments going along with the election. They were all similar, but some of them stuck out to me. They were as follows:
- This whole thing has been a shit show.
- I didn’t vote because I hate them both.
- I’m moving to Canada.
- #NotMyPresident
- I started a countdown to the next election. *insert time*
- If you thought I was an angry feminist before, I hope you are ready for the next four years.
- if you didn't vote, your opinion is completely irrelevant.
- I have never been so disgusted with my country in my life.
- I’m not okay with the results, but I have hope that some good will come from the Trump presidency.
- I miss President Obama already.
- Can I take a nap for four years?
- Tired of seeing Trump's stupid orange face and the stupid things that come out of his mouth and tired of seeing Hillary's stupid lying face.
I even had a friend in Canada offer to let me come stay with her.
Physically, people’s reactions have been both good and bad. Foreign dignitaries have reached out to show their support, while our nations people have responded in many ways. Ranging anywhere from peaceful protests to violently attacking people. Here are a few of the events that have occurred so far:
- Protestors set objects in the streets of Oakland on fire.
- Protests are held in Berkeley, Santa Cruz and Los Angeles California, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Portland and Eugene Oregon, New York, New York, Washington D.C., on UCLA campus, etc.
- An Anti-Trump March is held in Seattle, Washington.
- The Canadian immigration website crashes.
- Flag burnings are held across the country.
- The Prime Minister of Israel releases congratulations on President Trump winning the election.
- People have been pulled out of their cars and brutally beaten based off people believing they voted for Trump.
