If you’re reading this, that probably means you read my original article regarding why in my opinion Ohio University is better than Ohio State University. The remarks and replies I received to my article completely shocked and stunned me. To be honest, I never imagined my article would become so viral. Before this, the most views I’ve gotten on an article was around 50 and now I’m getting 5000-plus. The comments are a whole different story. My article began being shared only God knows where. All over Facebook, Twitter, etc.
That’s all besides the point, though. As a writer for Odyssey, we are told to come up with an article idea and produce an article to have sent in once a week, every week. Never did I imagine how big this article was going to turn out. And never did I imagine how hurt people would be just because I voiced my opinions in an online article. I guess I should’ve been more prepared for the hate I received, but in reality, all I was doing was voicing my opinion. Never in my article did I say that anyone else’s is wrong. Never in my article did I state that these were all “facts” and I didn’t have to “do my research” because research is not necessary in writing an opinion article.
My article was about having school pride. A few people commented saying I wasn’t even bragging about OU, but instead I was only bashing on OSU. This is completely false. I was not trying to “bash” OSU. I’m sure there are plenty of articles on why OSU is better than OU, so where’s the issue in trying to spread my Bobcat pride over the internet? Why are OSU students entitled to share their opinions and we are not? In my article, I listed the reasons why I chose OU over OSU. I do not like football and I did not want to go to school in a busy, crowded town. I was simply stating why OU is better than OSU, in my opinion. If having an opinion is wrong, then all of you are also wrong because listing your opinions in the comment section is putting your opinion out there in the open, which is exactly what I did. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
I’m not saying sorry for having my opinions, but rather stating that I have pride in my school and just because people may know OU for being a “party school,” doesn’t mean I’m going to shut down every single one of their opinions. You all have opinions, too, and if you feel so strongly about them, great. Voice them!
