A writer from the New York University had good intentions by posting her listicle called "24 Funny Feel-Good Movies For Your Mental Health," but movies can only escape from reality temporarily. I couldn't agree with all of the movies promoting good mental health, but I found the listicle's title a little deceiving. With my own opinion of psychology, I would like to clarify more about how these films can benefit good mental health or just "feel good" if one decides to stay at home with a few movies from Redbox or Netflix.
A list of 24 movies focusing on mental health sounds like too much or too confident, even as suggestions. I can only speak for 14 of the 24 films because they are the ones that I have seen before.
"We're The Millers"
I would recommend this to a group of friends that may consider themselves as a "family" since this is about a few acquaintances pretending to be a family on vacation.
"Friends With Benefits"
For those who have been a friend with benefits, they could gain more self-reflection to decide whether they are or not emotionally-attached to a partner.
"Crazy Stupid Love"
We can all laugh at romantic crossroads, even when it involves parents falling out of love. It makes the hate on Valentine's Day more understandable.
"Legally Blonde"
This film could possibly gain confidence for those having a change of college major or a complete career change.
"Bridesmaids"
A story of a wedding coming together helps to feel less guilty for being jealous of a friend getting married before you.
"Easy A"
During our adolescent years, we focus a lot on image. This film shows how badly rumors can spread when a high school girl labels herself as "easy."
"Trainwreck"
Amy Schumer characterizes herself as a woman struggling to accept a certain man being compatible with her. This film has good satire over a young adult's verge of "settling down" a relationship.
"Meet The Fockers"
After watching this movie, you might feel less awkward about the love of weird parents and meeting your in-laws before getting married.
"Pitch Perfect"
Rebel Wilson and the rest of the choir demonstrate how teamwork is done the right way. Plus, singing is therapeutic.
"How To Be Single"
This film can make the single life of women less of a stigma.
"Date Night"
For married couples, this movie can encourage them to have more spontaneous dates if not too dangerous. Just as long as they get a great escape out of a marriage's boredom.
"Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates"
As long as you and your date behave well at weddings, this film will definitely make you feel good.
"Bad Teacher"
No matter what you do for work, make sure you take pride in it if you want to "feel good" on Mondays.
"Superbad"
This movie might bring some nostalgia about our senior year of high school when you start to miss partying and close friends.
