I will always be here for you.

My roommate wrote this wonderful article about her promises to me, so I wanted to publish my response. Here are my 11 promises to you.

1. I promise to always be a support system for you, even after college.

Whether it is at 5:00 in the afternoon or 3:00 in the morning, you can always talk to me about how you are feeling or what is bothering you. I do not want you to ever feel like you cannot talk to me. Also, when we graduate I do not want to lose touch. A college roommate is a lifelong friend in my eyes.

2. I promise to help you with your school work, no matter how far deep I am in mine.

I am sure we are both going to be crying at our desks wondering what in the heck we are even reading but even if I am on the floor crying in the fetal position, you can ask me for help. I promise to buck up and stop crying.

3. I promise to not get mad at you for being a slob.

I know we will get busy and forget to put something away. I will probably do it myself. Do not worry about that because chances are you will probably find one of my shirts on your bed. I am apologizing in advance for all the things I might leave laying around. I like to be neat, but I do have my moments.

4. I promise to make sure you are up for class.

I will make sure you make that 8 a.m. on time too. I'll drag you there as hard as you drag me if I do not wake up. Literally, I will grab your ankle and drag you across the floor.

5. I promise to jam out to country music with you.

I am surprised you remembered that I hated it, but, it has grown on me over the years so let’s play it loud and proud no matter who is in the room next to us.

6. I promise to not ugly cry in front of you.

I am telling you now there will be a lot of tears from me. I am a very emotional person, but I promise not to make an ugly face or noises. I will cry in front of you, though.

7. I promise to do what you ask me.

If it is late at night, and you want me to quiet down, I will. If you ask me to finish up your laundry or take it down to the laundry room to do it, I will. I am here to help you and make your experience as smooth as possible.

8. I promise to pick you up when you are down.

If I see you sulking on your bed or getting frustrated from studying so hard, I will put you in my car and drive to the mall. Or, ask you what I can do to make you feel better.

9. I promise to dance out the stress with you.

We will play our favorite songs and dance it out on our study breaks.

10. I promise to be open-minded.

I admit I am not always one to go out of my comfort zone because of my anxiety, but I promise not to let you go anywhere by yourself, no matter how much I hate the idea.

11. I promise to never be the roommate you cannot bear to live with.

This is the most important one to both of us. I know how much you do not want this to happen and I will make sure it does not.

You made 11 promises so I made 11 but, honestly, I could go on and on about my promises to you. I want this to be the best experience for you and I want this to build our friendship even more than it already has. I love you so much.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
