The 2016 Presidential Election is going to be one for the books, mark it down historians. Not because of the superb quality of candidates we have, but because of the media. The media has absolutely done everything they could to highlight this election, and I must say the coverage has become the talk of the town.
The beautiful thing about being an American every day, but most importantly during Election season is the fact that everyone can formulate their own opinion about who they plan on supporting during the election. No matter where you go, or who you talk to someone always has something to say about our Presidential Candidates. I value our freedom of speech, and most importantly I value your opinion. I just don’t plan on beating my opinion into your head as a private citizen because; I simply value your opinion.
There is a reason you are supporting your candidate of choice, and that should be a good enough reason to vote for your candidate. We may disagree on who should lead our nation, but I promise to not love you any less for your opinion. This has been my personal focal point because of my family and friends; I sometimes support their least favorite candidate. I take backlash, hard hitting political lines, and sometimes it sucks. I have chosen to support my candidate based on my experience, and future career. I would like to think that at the end of the day that should be good enough for you as well.
I strongly believe there is more that unites us as citizens of this great country, than divides us. Take away all of the arguing, protesting, hateful speech, these issues still present themselves. Think about it. We still have people in this country facing an enormous amount of debt because they went to college. We are facing international threats from various state actors because we are the world’s super power. We have one of the world’s most innovative health care systems but millions are still lacking coverage. We have a regressive tax system that benefits more at the top than our middle and lower class. No matter whose solutions may be best to tackle these issues, we can all agree these are some issues Americans must sort out before we can proceed with an Agenda that works best for America. Stop the fighting, name calling and unite to do what is right for our country.
I wouldn’t be the first person to support a mandatory civics class in our educational system. In order to promote a vibrant democracy we must first start with our people, to educate them of the process. I find it astonishing the same electoral system that has elected many of our great presidents throughout history, is being questioned because people do not understand the electoral process. If people do not understand how we elect a president, what the government does for its people, how the legislative process works, they are going to make an uneducated guess at who should lead our country
Let’s advocate for policies that will make America better for future generations to come. Now is the time to begin the conversation of solutions that can work best for all Americans. No matter what your opinion may be, just realize I will respect it, despite if you respect mine. This world is filled with too much hate for me to consume my time hating your opinion. So many brave men and women fought for us to have our own opinions. Embrace our heritage, and let’s move forward together.
