When it comes to New Year's resolutions, it ends up being pretty standard: lose weight, be healthy, travel more. And one that has become more popular is saying "yes" more. I wish more people would put on their list to say "no."
Hear me out. It's great to step outside your comfort zone, be spontaneous, and experience new things. However, for many people, saying "yes" to everything leads to a year full of tight schedules because they took on too much. There are also those who say "yes" to most things anyway. They need another option.
So I proposed that people say no more. Not to everything, of course, that's limiting yourself as much as a tight schedule and stress does. But for those who need a minute between activities. For those who feel like saying "yes" is the only option. This year I challenge you to say "no."
This does not make you selfish. This does not make you a kill-joy. This does not make you antisocial. Saying "no" simply means that you know your limits. You know when you have enough on your plate and can't take on something else. You know when you've been around people long enough and have to leave. You know what you need and have the confidence to care for yourself.
Saying "no" can bring you just as much happiness as saying "yes" can.
