Every year on December 31, we get together with our friends and loved ones to watch the ball drop into the new year. January 1 is a breath of fresh air for some people as they commit themselves to making changes in their lives. They sit down, write out all the resolutions they can think of for the new year, and swear to commit to them.
A month later, that list is long forgotten. The resolutions we vowed to keep are pushed to the side as life happens.
I believe resolutions are a good thing. Change is always a necessary part of life. However, I think we should not focus on committing to change one day out of the entire year. I feel like this is one of the reasons New Year's resolutions always fail. We write down a long list of change for ourselves. This can be overwhelming. For change to take place, it takes a lot of time and commitment. When you try to do this for numerous things, the change never truly happens no matter how hard we try.
Here is a list of resolutions I think everyone should have on their lists every day of the year:
1. Be kind to everyone.
2. Do not judge others, especially if you don't know their stories.
3. If you love someone, let them know it.
4. Forgive and forget.
5. Learn about a new culture.
6. Meet new people.
7. Stop procrastinating.
8. Love yourself.
9. Spend more time with the people that matter.
10. Give back to those less fortunate than you.
11. Be slow to anger.
12. Take responsibility for your actions.
13. Face your fears instead of running from them.
14. Be more grateful.
15. Listen more.
16. Complain less.
17. Find the good in every situation.
18. Believe in yourself.
19. Pick your battles wisely.
20. Go on more adventures.
Welcome 2017! Let's make this a great year, y'all!
