"Resolutions" Every College Kid Says They Will Keep In The Next Year

Because who actually keeps their resolutions?

So New Years was just yesterday meaning most of you have created your resolutions and are ready to start them (and also break them)! Here are the most typical resolutions college kids try and keep each and every year!

1. "I'm going to lose all the weight I gained over Christmas Break"

Kudos to the people who actually go to the gym more after coming back for break, but every college kid can agree that coming back to campus with a newly loaded dining card is very tempting. Also, it's hard to try and eat healthier in the new semester, especially because there is no more homemade cooking and sometimes, Chick-Fil-A just sounds like the best option.

2. "I'm going to start studying for finals way earlier this year"

Especially after my first time taking college finals, this is one of my new resolutions (which I know I won't follow through on). Finals week is so stressful as is and all I felt that entire week was wishing I started studying at basically the beginning of the semester. Cumulative finals are definitely the worst and it always feels great to have a head start, except I'll be the first to admit that it is easy to put off studying even during the last few hours you have until the final!

3. "I'm not going to go out before my 8am test tomorrow"

Being in a fun and hip college town, mine being Auburn, makes it tough to want to stay in or study all night before a big test the next morning. There are always way "better" options (or at least at the time it seems) rather than getting enough hours of sleep or studying just a little bit more. There's fun restaurants, stores, and bars all around campus and it's always hard to say no to your friends, especially if you are sick and tired of studying for the day!

4. "I'm never going to skip class again"

Sometimes, things come up. You have a big test the class after or you just need some rest! But every college kid is kidding themselves if they say they will never skip class and never have! It's very tempting to go get breakfast instead, or to sleep in a couple extra hours (because in college, those really matter).

5. "I'm going to be organized all semester"

Life gets busy and some mornings, it is easier to roll out of bed rather than making your bed before class. Also, buying a planner always makes me feel way more organized, but then at the end of the semester, I realize I never used it. It's not that hard to clean up after a rough week, but it's definitely pretty close to impossible to keep everything clean and organized while going to class and having a decent social life.

Although having new resolutions is fun, make sure to make them a little bit more realistic so you aren't totally kidding yourself!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
