To you, a resilient reader,
Since the beginning of time people have set goals for themselves. What is the difference between those that have achieved those goals and those that failed? The key word is resiliency. As children, we learn how to walk, but fall before we do it successfully. It is inevitable; you will have your first love, then first break-up. Death is a real thing and someone close to you will pass away. How will you bounce back? I am not trying to be cynical here, but we all face these realities.
These adversities can make or break you. I think we all have different coping mechanisms and they can make a positive or negative impact on us. It is important not to suppress your emotions, but rather embrace them. Enjoy every moment for it is ever-changing. We have went through our fair share of trials and tribulations. They honestly have made us into the people we are today. I think about all the different people throughout our history that did not let their struggles get the best of them.
Einstein didn’t speak his first three years of his life. In fact, people thought he was lazy and not going to make anything of himself. He always received good marks, but he was focused on other things. Today the Theory of Relativity has been developed, we are still trying to wrap our heads around that concept. Stephen’s King novel was rejected 30 times. He finished the book and now has sold over 350 million copies.
“If at first you don’t succeed, try again” illustrates that it is just as important to lose as it is to win. For one to become great, they must start out as a beginner. And thus, from there, it is all trial and error. Sometimes we have visions of things people are yet to see. They may call you crazy or say that is impossible just because it is surpassing their capabilities, or willingness to accomplish something.
Being around goal-driven people makes a significant impact on the successes in our lives. The older I get, the more I want to be around people who are passionate about something. At first, it is lucrative to set small goals. However, then you can slowly increase the magnitude of those goals. It is essential to have a check-list and keep track of your short term goals and long term goals.
Where do you see yourself in a couple of months from now or even a couple of years? Ultimately, all of us want to be successful. Nevertheless, what that looks like to each one of us is understandably a bit different.
We all set these goals with a certain purpose and attainment in mind. So then, categorizing these goals and breaking them down is vital. Personally, goals that immediately emerges in my forebrain are: independence, writing a book, traveling the world, learning a new language, helping someone through a difficult situation in their life, owning my dream house, finding that special person and establishing a career. I want to be great at all of these things, and I recognize that it takes time. Rome wasn’t built in a day, likewise our goals will be synonymous to Rome’s record. Remember why you set that goal while recognizing who you truly are.
