This is the life of a researcher:
With gas line in hand I approach the delicate silicon chip.
Bulbous droplets of water face me
I attack them with my stream of helium gas
Expecting to see them blown to vaporous smithereens
But they just roll around, as if playing a game
Sliding around the edges as I chase them futilely
Dividing, then reuniting
In a malicious dance
Skittering out of the reach of my nozzle.
And I do not dare approach too closely
For fear of leaving an indelible mark
That would force me to restart
And there are yet other things to do
Before the experiment can even start
Have I painfully studied physics for so long
To be defeated by a droplet of water?
This is not what I came to do!
But such is the life of a researcher.
Otherwise known as "what I write when I don't have time to write anything deep." You know what's a lot deeper and basically the article I joined Odyssey to write? The last article I wrote. Find it here. There's a lot of me in it, and I'd love to start a conversation about it because it's so very pertinent to the world situation. Read and share, s'il vous plait? Merci. *end shameless plug*
