Dogs are man’s best friend. No matter what we do, they are still our loyal companions. Rescue dogs are no different. These guys come with a chip on their shoulder, but they make us learn so much about ourselves. There are three reasons why rescue dogs are the best dogs and will add value to your own life.
They have big personalities
These dogs often come with social and separation anxieties, which makes their new life with you very hard in the beginning. Even though they are quirky little creatures, they still desire love from you. Each rescue is like no other, so do not base all rescues on one personality.
I have had many rescue dogs, but my current one has the biggest personality. He had a very hard first year of his life with his old owners. He was abused and when I rescued him, he had the biggest chip on his shoulder. He absolutely hated me for a week. He had nothing to do with me and I looked like I had fought a cat based on the scratches I had received from him. Today though, he still has his many anxieties, but he has so much love.
You learn so much about yourself
When you rescue a dog, you learn so much about yourself. You become more patient and more aware of how your life affects another. Dogs are very routine and you learn that you need to have a more time managed schedule to reduce their anxieties. You become more patient because you learn that these dogs are needier and just need a little more love. You might realize that each step you take, you have a shadow behind you or that a whine will occur if a door gets closed without them.
My rescue is one that is constantly searching for me. I cannot step out in my yard without hearing whines and scratches on my door and a little face peering out of each window to keep an eye on me. I learned that my guy is a little needier than others and for me, this makes me love him so much more. Now, he goes with me wherever he can because his life is just a little shorter than mine and needs to be filled with constant happiness.
The rescue dog bond
Often these dogs are homeless from not their own actions, but because of their owner’s actions. Puppies are great ideas until they become dogs that someone no longer wants to play with or some just have a very rough start like abuse and neglect. The second part was my guy. He lived in a garage for the week before I rescued him and was terrified of any unamiable object you held up above him.
When these dogs are introduced to a new home, they want to please you so much and this may be extra licks and jumps each day after you return from work. These dogs are grateful and now they are learning that they have a good life. Most of these rescues are more affectionate and even more attentive than other dogs. These actions only increase your bond with them and makes it to where you will never forget them long after they are gone, which will always be a special part in your heart.
