I believe that it has become a common pointed mistake that every young Republican believes the Republican party ideas because of their parents. Well, that idea is false. Of course, your parents to raise you and to an extent have a small impact on what your beliefs lie, but it is not always true no matter what political party you grew up in.
I am not a Republican because of my race and financial status either.
It has become a tactic to pin Republicans beliefs to a spot where it relates to tradition. In this day anything that relates to tradition and conservativeness must go. Is it completely wrong to respect that certain peoples beliefs lie in tradition? We still honor traditions like marriage and New Year's resolutions, so why not let others believe in traditions, like the Constitution?
It is also no lie that being a Republican is becoming more difficult to speak about your beliefs.
It is no lie that as a Republican in a growing outspoken liberal environment called the university. You are given many labels to define that your beliefs have no meaning and are not your own.
You are bashed for being stuck in old ways that we need to modernize with everyone else.
It is also important that in a tradition some things may be adjusted and that it is important to embrace change to an extent. Accepting change does not mean changing your whole beliefs, morals, and values. That is what we as people are founded on and drive who we are as part of a democracy. As a country, we do not want to bash one another views in a who is right and who is wrong and that what they believe is a cause, for some reason.
I am proud to be a Republican. Just because I am a Republican does not mean I am because of my parents. I am a Republican because I think in a certain logical way that is embedded in my morals and beliefs. I don't bash other people's beliefs because I am a Republican and neither should anyone else.
