If you've never heard of a K-drama where have you been? Living under a rock? Just kidding. K-dramas are Korean dramas and they usually have 12-24, 60-minute episodes in a series that do not go beyond 1 season unlike American shows.
If you are looking for a show to watch and want to try a K-drama, I recommend this one: Reply 1988. It is currently airing and there are 14 out of the 25 episodes out right now.
The heroine whose name is Deok-Sun lives in Ssangmun-dong, where she and four males grow up together before she marries one of them. As a viewer you try to figure out which one of them she marries. The appeal of this drama are the relationships between the five families who have been living in the same neighborhood. The drama does a good job going into each of the character's back stories, showing the joys and sorrows of the average working class family in South Korea during the late 80's.
The main cast are:
Hyeri from girl k-pop girl Girl's Day as Sung Deok Sun
Sung Deok-Sun is the middle child who's not so book smart but is strong-willed and a kind character. She's the only girl in the group and the heroine of the story.
Lee Dong Hwi as Yoo Dong Ryoung
Yoo Dong Ryoung is always getting in trouble. So much so that even his teacher Dad has a hard time discipling him. He is considered the "Love Counselor" of the group and sometimes acts like he knows everything.
Ryu Joon Yeol as Kim Jung Hwan
Kim Jung Hwanl's house is on top of Deok-Sun's so they see each other a lot. He is considered the intelligent one in the group and is more well-off compared to his neighborhood friends.
Park Bo Gum as Taek
Taek is a heck of a ba-duk player and the gang uses his room as their headquarters. He is a very eccentric character who is silent but when he does talk it's hilarious.
Go Kyung Po as Sun Woo
Sun Woo has to deal with being the 'man of the house' after his dad passes away. He is the sweet son who takes care of his younger sister and mother.
Hope you enjoy this drama as much as I am!
